As Jewish boys and girls come of age a bar or bat mitzvah is held to celebrate the passage of childhood to adulthood in the tradition of the faith. Bar mitzvahs for boys are held at age 13 while bat mitzvahs for girls are for 12 year olds. The occasion is a celebratory one because it is a milestone event where family and friends come together in support. The Chez Wedding Venue in the Near North Side is another of our favorites. Despite the name, Chez is available for bar and bat mitzvahs, with lakefront access just a few blocks away. Hotels, restaurants, bars, and other amenities are just as close along Chicago's Magnificent Mile and Michigan Ave. Chez is a stunning venue with a pure white theme that suggests freedom and new beginnings. The main hall offers 5,000 sq. ft. of space, with a mezzanine level and a beautiful white staircase leading up to it.

Another popular bar and bat mitzvah party venue are mansions. Given the long history and architectural splendor of Chicago, there are plenty to choose from. Many have been converted into museums, art galleries, and cultural institutions. Yet they are still available for private event rentals. One such is the International Museum of Surgical Science. Pure white halls, fascinating exhibits, and marble statue lined corridors offer a unique experience for any bar mitzvah party. Designed by prominent Chicago architect Howard Van Doren Shaw, the 20th century mansion is a classic example of Gold Coast splendor and accommodates up to 200 guests.
