“Twilight” follows a young girl named Bella Swan who moves across the country to Washington state, where she meets the vampire Edward Cullen. The story goes on to chronicle the trials and tribulations of their romance.

The story and fun performances are one of the things that bring audiences coming back. However, there’s no question that the film does an amazing job of portraying the Pacific Northwest with its fog and deep woods. One of the standouts of this architecture is the beautiful home that Edward Cullen lives in, with huge glass windows nestled in lush wilderness.

Is the Cullen house from “Twilight” actually in Washington?

You may already know that the story of “Twilight” takes place on Washington state’s Olympic Peninsula. But did they actually use the state of Washington for filming? Turns out, the filmmakers found the house they chose in Portland, Oregon.

Remaining in the Pacific Northwest maintained the vibe that they were looking for, and it’s no question that they made the right decision. According to an article on Velvet Ropes, the directors found the house in an architecture magazine called Portland Spaces. They go on to describe the origin of the home: “Jeff Kovel, the Twilight House architect, designed this home as his first solo project with his own firm, Skylab Architecture. The home was completed in 2001 after construction took 14 months. I was going to be sold to someone from New York, but they backed out after the events of 9/11 which caused Jeff Kovel to move into his own house.”

Many fans of the movie see the house and naturally wonder, “Where is the Cullen house from ‘Twilight’ located?” However, Jeff Kovel has a different name for it according to an article by the Wall Street Journal. “Mr. Kovel calls it the ‘Hoke House’ for its real-life owner, John Hoke, the director of footwear design at Nike. Mr. Hoke bought the home, also built on spec, just a few days after it hit the market in 2007, Mr. Kovel says”.

It’s clear from this interview that the home was a true labor of love for Mr. Kovel and that the home meant a lot when he built it. Fans will be happy to know that the home is essentially as it was when it was filmed for the movie.

Where is the Cullen house from the “Twilight” books located?

We’ve answered the question “Where is the Cullen house from “Twilight” located?” in the movie. But what about the book? It turns out that the description of the home in Forks in the book is quite different from the extravagant home in the movie.

The more quaint location is actually a functioning bed and breakfast called the Miller Tree Inn. The bed and breakfast is fully aware of the comparison they receive to the home described in the books and welcome fans of the series with open arms. From their website: “The Miller Tree Inn has been designated the “Cullen House” in Forks. Though it looks nothing like the movie version, our inn closely matches Stephenie Meyer‘s description of the Cullen family home. The Cullens travel from Washington frequently, so chances of seeing them are slim. However, the innkeepers speak “Twilight” and are under strict orders to take special care of their overnight guests. A complete Forks “Twilight” experience must include some imagination and a stay at the Cullen House.”

They go on to describe what it was like to be associated with the book and seem to lean into the fandom which is always fun. There are tons of other filming locations from the “Twilight” series of movies, spanning several continents! It might take the immortality awarded to a vampire-like Edward Cullen to find the time to visit them all, but you can visit many iconic Portland locations like those in the film.
