What is “Senior Year”?

Who doesn’t love a good back-to-school movie? 2022’s “Senior Year” is Netflix’s latest installment in the long line of comedies in the vein of “Back To School” or “Billy Madison”.
Rebel Wilson stars as a woman who awakens from a 20-year coma and goes back to finish her last year and get her diploma. The early 21st Century nostalgia is in full effect, and with a supporting cast including Sam Richardson and Zoë Chao, there are plenty of laughs and memorable moments.
While the movie wasn’t quite a hit with critics, there is still a lot to love about it. There are plenty of cool backdrops and locations that are sure to make you ask the question: where was “Senior Year” filmed? From the high school that the characters attend to some of the beautiful homes, there is a lot to check out and admire.

Is Loganville, Maryland a real place?

The movie is firmly set in the town of Loganville, Maryland. Here, Rebel Wilson’s character Steph calls Deanna’s house “the most beautiful house in Maryland”.
As it turns out, there is no actual town named Loganville in Maryland, so we still have the question: where was “Senior Year” filmed?
More often than not, they don’t film movies and television shows in the actual place. Movie and TV show creators film productions in cities and states that are film hubs. “Senior Year” is no exception to this, and according to IMDB, the film was shot in and around Atlanta, Georgia.
The city is also known as the “Hollywood of the South” because of how many film and television productions are done there.
Where did they film the high school in “Senior Year”?

In the movie, Steph faces the difficulties and hijinks of missing 20 years and returning to high school. Watching the characters go through the halls of the beautiful school from the movie is sure to make you ask the question: where was “Senior Year” filmed?
According to The Cinemaholic, Harding High School is actually a private school in Atlanta called the Westminsters School, located on West Paces Ferry Road Northwest.
In actuality, the private school isn’t a high school like it is presented to be in the movie. Instead, the school is for students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The school’s website boasts that it was founded back in 1951 and has around 1,800 students in attendance.
Another location mentioned by The Cinemaholic is the nearby Grant Park which is featured in several scenes in the movie. The park was founded in 1883, making it the oldest city park in Atlanta!
Notable homes in filming “Senior Year”

One of the other things on display in “Senior Year” is the homes of Loganville, Maryland. We see quite a variety of them, and many are sure to spark the question: where was “Senior Year” filmed?
The first one we’ll visit is the home of Steph and her father, played by Chris Parnell. The small one-story bungalow is located in the Grant Park neighborhood, according to Dirt. The quaint, green home is a showcase of the historic Atlanta neighborhood.
Apparently, the yellow signs that hang from Steph’s house and others in the movie are meant to signify cohesion in the neighborhood. Please keep in mind that this is a private residence, so you shouldn’t do much other than snap a couple of pictures while passing by if you decide to visit it yourself.
Next up is the large house that Steph pines after, owned by her nemesis Tiffany and high-school boyfriend Blaine. Dirt says that this is another private residence at 2611 Dellwood Drive in Atlanta. The large property spans over half an acre. Coming in at a little over 6,000 square feet and with five bedrooms and three bathrooms, it’s no wonder that Steph called this her dream house!

Where did they film the prom in “Senior Year”?

The last location that we’ll be covering today is one thing that every high schooler will remember, senior prom! In the case of “Senior Year,” IMDB says that the prom scenes were all shot at the Fox Theater in Atlanta.
This is another historic Atlanta staple. Its website says they were founded all the way back in 1928 and was originally intended to be a home for the Atlanta Shriners chapter. After it became too expensive to maintain, they leased the space to movie theater mogul William Fox.
Today, you can visit the theater for yourself to see a show or book a tour of the beautiful building.
