Architecture Meets Desert Sanctuary in This Month’s Wow Space

Folly Mojave is a one-of-a-kind retreat set against the rugged backdrop of the Mojave Desert. Designed by renowned architect Malek Alqadi, this space pairs expansive desert landscape with minimalist architecture to create an unparalleled setting for your next special celebration, photo shoot, or corporate getaway.

Folly Mojave is made up of a series of structures carefully placed to blend with the landscape – giving the illusion of buildings emerging organically from the earth. One of these structures is a two-story suite with an outdoor bedroom deck boasting panoramic desert views, designed to foster connection between the environment and guests enjoying the space. The Mara Pavilion onsite provides an open, inviting space ideal for group gatherings, wellness sessions, or intimate meals under the desert stars. For added relaxation or an interesting photo shoot setting, a second suite offers indulgent amenities like a sauna, steam room, and cold plunge pool.

While the design is incredible, what truly sets Folly Mojave apart is its deep commitment to sustainability. The space was built using locally sourced materials like charred wood and desert stone to reflect the earthy tones of the Mojave and ensure that each structure blends harmoniously into its environment. Alqadi shared that “Folly Mojave strives to operate as a self-sufficient microgrid, with the sun reigning as the primary energy source – truly disconnecting from external utilities.”

This architecture honors the land while providing a luxurious yet thoughtfully designed shelter for those who visit. “I aim to offer a seamless connection with the wilderness,” continues Alqadi. “Whether you’re captivated by a good book or observing the Martian-like landscape from a distance, I place you at the heart of your own unique experience.”

The property has garnered attention for its design excellence from acclaimed publications around the world, including recent features in Wallpaper and Dezeen magazines. In these interviews, Alqadi details the design story of this space, noting that “… as a child I explored near my birthplace Petra, Jordan, and the enigmatic allure of Al-Ula in Saudi Arabia, my ongoing vision is to seek to create spaces that are both reverent, resilient, and rooted in my origins.”

Ready to bring your vision to life in this stunning desert sanctuary? Folly Mojave is waiting to inspire your next creative endeavor or personal retreat.
