Where did they film the cave?

Toward the end of the movie, Bullock and Tatum escape the “Lost City” through a system of caves and underwater grottos. According to Conde Nast Traveler, it was actually three separate locations that were spliced together to create one seamless location.

The first was a group of underground tunnels in Scape Park. The filmmakers chose one section of those tunnels named Iguabonita Cave. For the scenes where they were wading through water, they used caves back near Samana, located in an area called Los Haitises National Park. Los Haitises was also a setting in the classic movie “Jurassic Park”!

Lastly, they filmed the remainder of the underwater scenes at Pinewood Studios in Juan Dolio. While most of the movie was shot on location on the island, they also filmed some shots on soundstages. Or, in the case of the water scenes in the grotto, Pinewood’s water tank.
