Washington, D.C. is world famous for its collection of memorials and monuments but the majority aren't open to wedding reservations. The DC War Memorial is one exception, though! Its round white marble design is an ideal meeting place for the ceremony. The DC War Memorial is also surrounded by a lush lawn spacious enough for hundreds of guests. The only other venues in the National Mall open to wedding reservations are the George Mason Memorial and Jefferson Memorial lawn.
Since the waiting list for The DC War Memorial is likely to be long, consider reserving a traditional wedding venue with outdoor space. Many wedding and event halls have courtyards with space for an outdoor wedding ceremony and reception. You'll find venues with statue gardens, ponds, water fountains, and other decorative touches that fit any wedding theme.
The further you get from downtown, the more space you'll have for your dollar as well. Stone Tower Winery is a popular choice an hour away in Virginia. The grounds include four ceremony sites, including the Vineyard View ballroom, with space for up to 250 guests. You'll also have cocktail and
rehearsal dinner spaces plus a wedding suite reservation for the day.
Gordon Springs in Purcellville, VA, is another beautiful outdoor venue for weddings in the DC area. This 30-acre estate is a former farm that's been converted into an event venue. The original 18th century farmhouse has been preserved, making it ideal for rustic-themed wedding ceremonies.
